Here's my first new track of 2010, which has some very minor black metal elements as well as my first attempt at a "Master of Puppets" or "March of the Fire Ants" style epic melodic part. Not sure how successful it was, but I really wanted to crank this one out, and it was written and recorded in just a few days total.

I watched the amazing movie "Anvil: The Story of Anvil" the other night and it got me all pumped up to write and record. So here's a new song that I've been kicking around for a while.

new song download: "double digit iq"

New song's done! I started writing this using CADGBE tuning, but then I talked with a friend about New Standard Tuning (CGDAEG) and decided to rewrite the riffs using that and I thought it sounded great. I actually broke the highest string while retuning and didn't bother replacing it, so this was technically recorded using CGDAE tuning.

The title is taken from a Patton Oswalt comedy routine, where he mentions that the median IQ in America is 100, which means that half the population has double digit IQs. It gets funny after that, I promise. But this country is full of idiots, for real, and that inspired me to write some riffs.

And no vocals, again. I'm putting these out individually, with their own cover art because I'm treating them as singles. That will push me to write, record, post, repeat, instead of waiting to have a collection of songs that I'm satisfied with, which is a lot more time-consuming.

new song download: "demons, beasts, and witches of modern times"

I've been working on other projects recently and Digestion was on the back burner for a few months, but then I got some great new drum software (EZdrummer with the Drumkit from Hell expansion from Toontrack - really excellent stuff) and it lit a fire under me to write some more. So I put together a brand new track for all my salivating fans.

I'm not a metal vocalist, so unfortunately I was unable to put vocals on this. I even wrote some decent lyrics and tried to record them because I think this song is begging for a vocal part, but it sounded horrible and hurt my throat. Anyone want to record some vocals for me? Internet collaboration is awesome.

new song download: "farm hearts"

New song! I saw Meshuggah last month and attempted to write a Meshuggah-ish part in the middle of this song, and it ended up sounding nothing like them. But I like it anyway. I don't know where that last riff came from. I started this one by trying to expand a half-song I wrote a really long time ago called "Bone Dry Waterslide," but as I wrote more, I realized most of that song didn't really fit what I like playing these days, so only a tiny fragment of that original song made it into this final one.

I didn't make a cover for this one. Use the one from the last post, since I'm tagging all these mp3s with the album name "Don't Stop Bereaving," since that title cracks me up.

new song download - "don't stop bereaving"

I recorded "Don't Stop Bereaving" on March 8th, 2009. It was written about a month ago, I think. These songs are going to be compiled on an album at some point, but I'm putting them online whenever I finish them to please my burgeoning fanbase. I'm also whipping up album covers with very little thought or care, so feel free to ignore them if you'd like.

new song download - "chart the course of the machine gun alibi"

Click here for the free MediaFire download.

"Chart the Course of the Machine Gun Alibi" is the first new song that I've recorded since Hellevator. It's a little bit of a different direction. Expect lots more blasting in future songs, because I've been listening to way too much Discordance Axis. I've got a couple more written that I need to tweak and record. I hope to post them in the next couple weeks.

Recorded at Ande Grande Studios (that is, my apartment) on February 22, 2009. Feel free to comment with your thoughts. Also, if anyone wants to do vocals for this project, send me an email and we'll talk.
